The 45 members of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s three sanctioned fraternities attained GPAs higher than the college’s overall student population during the Fall 2012 semester.
Individual performance was led by Phi Mu Delta (with a 3.012 GPA), according to the semester academic report compiled by the college’s Student Activities Office. Sigma Nu (3.008) and Sigma Pi (2.813) rounded out the list.
The three fraternities combined for an all-Greek GPA of 2.958 for the semester, which exceeds the 2.516 average for all Penn College students, the 2.467 figure for all male students enrolled at the institution and the 2.599 average for all female students at the college.
“We hear concerns from parents that their sons won’t be able to balance their classroom responsibilities if they join a fraternity,” said Sara R. Hillis, who, as associate director of student activities, oversees Greek Life at Penn College. “I believe these numbers show that our Greek men are doing very well academically and can do both successfully.”
