Ten students graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Technology North Campus Outreach Practical Nursing Program on Thursday, Dec. 18.

The ceremony was held at Wellsboro Area High School with a reception for family and friends afterward.

The students selected Amanda Wyble, LPN, a staff nurse at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital and alumna of the program, as speaker for the ceremony.

Noncredit EMT Course to Be Offered at Choice of Locations

Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology will offer a new 150-hour, noncredit Emergency Medical Technician course, beginning with the Spring 2015 semester.

The course, comprising 50 hours of streaming online lectures and 100 hours of face-to-face learning, will meet National Emergency Medical Services Educational Standards and Instructional Guidelines and prepare students for National Registry cognitive and psychomotor examinations at the EMT level.

Administrative Medical Assistant Program to Be Offered in Wellsboro

Are you interested in a career in the rapidly growing field of health care? Pennsylvania College of Technology at Wellsboro will offer an administrative medical assistant program starting in September.

This adult-learning program will focus on training students in medical office practices, including medical terminology, computer applications, reception and scheduling, billing and coding, medical law and ethics, medical records, office management, and medical insurance.

The program will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Wellsboro Area School District Administration Building. Students will complete an externship with medical offices to prepare for employment in physicians’ offices, clinics, billing companies or other ambulatory care facilities.

The award recognizes an outstanding practical nursing educator within the PAPNA community and the educator’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

A former student in the North Campus Outreach Practical Nursing Program nominated Day for her educational approaches that support and inspire practical nursing students in the delivery of patient care.

Information Session for Practical Nursing Set for May 28 in Wellsboro

Pennsylvania College of Technology at Wellsboro will host a practical nursing program information session for those interested in a nursing career.

The information session will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in the old music room at the Wellsboro Area School District administration building. Natalie O. DeLeonardis, program coordinator, will discuss admission requirements, the application process, tuition and financial aid, as well as licensure and job opportunities for graduates. There will be an opportunity to ask questions following the presentation.

The next practical nursing class is scheduled to begin Jan. 5. The campus will begin pre-admission testing and accepting applications in July. All applicants must complete pre-entrance requirements by Oct. 1 to be considered for admission to the January 2015 class.
