A scholarship has been established by Volkswagen of America Inc. and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation/Automotive Youth Educational System in memory of a Pennsylvania College of Technology automotive technology alumnus.

Zachary C. Teter, who graduated in August 2011 with an associate degree, was killed in a March 19 vehicle accident in Schuylkill County. He was employed by J. Bertolet Volkswagen in Orwigsburg and, at the time of his death, was enrolled in a Volkswagen training program.

“We are honored to be selected to memorialize an alumnus with such a generous and thoughtful scholarship gift,” said Colin W. Williamson, dean of the college’s School of Transportation & Natural Resources Technologies.

Chosen during the Spring 2014 semester to receive the Zachary C. Teter Memorial Automotive Scholarship was David T. Chavey, an automotive technology major from Hershey. He will be eligible to receive additional awards this fall and next spring, each in the same amount of approximately $4,400, contingent upon maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or better.

“Volkswagen is pleased to honor Mr. Teter’s memory with the Zachary C. Teter Memorial Automotive Scholarship,” said Steve Rufo, general manager for service business operations at Volkswagen Brand Aftersales. “It is our hope that this scholarship will give a deserving student the opportunity to pursue valuable automotive training skills.”

“We are pleased to partner with Volkswagen and Penn College to offer a scholarship opportunity in Zachary’s name,” said Patricia Serratore, NATEF president. “It is a wonderful opportunity to help a worthy student achieve success in our industry.”
