Authorities simulate DUI enforcement in campus tradition.David C. Pletz, Penn College Police lead person, watches a student walk and weave "under the influence."Function over fashion: Brenna C. Richner, a graphic design student from Spring Mills, "models" the latest in impairment eyewear."Drunk goggles" impair the locomotion of Ashley L. Simpson, a baking and pastry arts major from Sunbury.Among the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Week activities to encourage Healthy Wildcats was the "Golf Cart Beer Run" on the Thompson Professional Development Center lawn Wednesday and Thursday, a tradition that powerfully replicates the effect alcohol consumption has on driving function. Wearing vision-impairing "drunk goggles," students recklessly maneuvered a cart (donated by White Deer Golf Course) through an obstacle course. Penn College Police were on hand to demonstrate field sobriety tests; information tables were available all week in various building lobbies; and Kristi L. Hammaker, health and fitness specialist, tested students' "Alcohol IQ" in a "Jeopardy!"-style format in Dauphin Hall on Tuesday.
